chapter 1

“And there he is!” Kim Jaejoong smirked as they cruised Seonggwak, a district in Seoul’s fashion block.

The mob boss for Seonggwak, 26 years old Shim Changmin glared at his childhood friend and second in command.

“And there he is!” Jaejoong repeated while nudging at his boss/friend. “The mean, scary boss of the Seonggwak district is reduced to a quiet mouse in the presence of a certain man with bouncy curls!”

Changmin shifted his eyes to the main subject of the conversation. The man, Park Yoochun was standing in the middle of his clothes shop, patiently waiting on a customer. The lights turned green and the gleaming, black imported sedan purred away on the streets of Seoul.

“Come on dongsaeng…” Jaejoong only called his boss that in private. “You don’t date, you don’t ever let anyone get close to you romantically, ignore anyone who shows the slightest interest in you but you faithfully stalk him! And I mean faithfully! Obviously you like him!”

Changmin crossed his long, long legs and looked out the window, ignoring Jaejoong.

“Why don’t you talk to him? Just say hi, Introduce yourself… you know? What harm is there?” Jaejoong wasn’t about to give up. “Enough with that look of longing and despair in your eyes already! For a man of your stature, it’s pathetic!”

“I’m not pathetic.” Changmin finally mumbles.

“Then prove it.” Jaejoong grinned. “Don’t let all the stuff I taught you on how to win a man’s heart go to waste!”

Changmin just rolled his eyes and addressed his driver instead. “Stop by the Jio sii’s office.”

A week later saw Changmin, big boss of the Seonggwak district locking his car and staring at a clothes shop just about 50 metres from where he was standing.

His second in command’s words rung clearly in his mind. “Why don’t you talk to him? Just say hi, Introduce yourself… you know? What harm is there?”

“Yeah….” Changmin took a deep steadying breath and gripped his car keys. He fought hard, worked his ass off to get where he is today. He rose from a mere messenger to a mob boss, one of the youngest ones too. Shim Changmin can face a room full of mean, seasoned mobsters, make people just cower in fear from just his glare but he couldn’t even approach a man he likes!

Shim Changmin shoved his keys in his pants’ pocket and crossed the rood to Park Yoochun’s clothes shop. “Almost there, what…?”

Suddenly two men entered Yoochun’s shop. Changmin’s eyes narrowed as he identified the tattoos on one of the men. It’s a rival group’s tattoo and there’s only one reason why there are here.  And definitely not to buy clothes!

“Bastards!” Changmin cursed as he hastened his steps. How dare they come into HIS territory?! How dare they come asking for protection money? The Seonggwak boss had specifically excluded this section from payment for protection money. He would have just excluded Yoochun but it would have been too obvious.

Changmin cursed again, where are his men in charge of this particular section anyway? He stopped just a few steps from the door to gather himself.

Meanwhile inside Yoochun’s clothes shop.

“Well, well, well, what do we have here?” Hyun Joong, a small time, hardly registers on the mob radar foot soldier sneers at Yoochun. “Such pretty clothes and an even prettier owner of the shop!”

DongShin laughs with his comrade. They were bored really, nothing much to do, just walking here and there when they came across Yoochun’s quaint little shop. “I agree…” He picked a random blouse and put it against himself. “What do you think, honey?” DongShin asked in a ridiculously high pitch voice.

“Terrible!” Hyun Joong replies, turning towards Yoochun. “But I bet it will look good on you!”

Yoochun swallows, wishing his phone was nearer. These guys do not look like they want to buy anything, they only spelt trouble. “What do you want?”

Hyun Joong laughed. “Ah! He asked the right question didn’t he?”

“Yup he sure…umph…” The next thing Dongshin knew he saw a fist and chaos ensued.

Changmin looked at the unconscious duo at his feet and the messed up shop.  He side stepped a pile of frilly blouses before pulling out his phone. He nodded once and spoke quietly into it.

Yoochun strained his ears but he couldn’t catch a word his savior said on the phone.

“Help me drag these two to the back?” Changmin was already dragging the heavier DongShin out.

“Oh…okay!” Yoochun stumbled from behind the cash register and started to drag the other unconscious man out of his shop.

“Yoochun are you okay?” A few people from shops neighbouring Yoochun asked, their faces shocked at the state of his shop.

“It’s fine…” Yoochun assures them before shooing them out of his shop. His shop is in a fine, royal mess and there’s a tall, handsome stranger in his shop too!

Pushing aside the curls from his forehead, Yoochun regarded his savior (?!) warily. Who is he? But before that what about those guys?! They had just dragged them to the back, what if they regained consciousness?!

Yoochun coughed a little. “I’ve never had anything like this happen before. What will happen to them?” Yoochun didn’t care, he just didn’t want them coming back into his shop.

That’s because until now, this area has been under Changmin’s men’s protection. This ‘thing’ shouldn’t have happened but someone decided to take a day off and Changmin’s going to get to bottom of this matter.  AND there will be hell to pay!

“Yeah…. Sorry about the shop.” Changmin decided to not answer Yoochun’s question.

“Oh…” Yes, his shop. Earlier question forgotten as Yoochun surveyed the mess. The beautiful clothes he had painstaking chose, haggled for from the Namdaemun market were everywhere, he’d probably could salvage some, the ones not torn or dirty, one mannequin seemed intact but the other…. “It’s bad, but I think I can save some of it…., at least the glass (the display window) is okay.”

“I’ll pay for the damages…”

“Oh no! You helped me. It’s fine. Those two were up to no good. You came just in time.” Yoochun peered and smiled at his tall savior.

“Still..” Changmin reached for his wallet.

“Omo! Your hands!” Yoochun gasped as he saw the swollen knuckles. “Here….” Yoochun grabbed Changmin’s arm and ordered him to sit on a stool that creaked as he lowered his lanky frame on it.

“I’ll get some ice for it.” And before Changmin could protest or otherwise, Yoochun was out of the shop like an arrow.
